New All-Electric Technologies to be Featured in First-of-its-Kind Program
To Benefit City of Decatur Residents

DECATUR, Ga. – A new community program to help City of Decatur homeowners learn about, plan their property’s energy use needs and affordably acquire the latest in energy efficiency technology is now in development and will launch here later this year.

The innovative program known as Electrify Decatur – the first of its kind in Georgia – will provide free support by helping Decatur homeowners to:

  • Explore weatherization and proven all-electric options by mapping a customized energy savings plan for their property;
  • Select from an array of participating local contractors;
  • Access valuable assistance to identify and navigate through discount purchase incentives from the state of Georgia, and;
  • Shop for financing alternatives in order to help upgrade their home appliances and systems

“Electrification” is a way to transition from gas, heating oil, or outdated appliances and equipment to high-efficiency electrified alternatives. The Electrify Decatur program will feature a free new online marketplace — LetsGoElectric.com — in which Decatur-based and nearby contractors showcase innovative heat pump technologies and energy-efficiency products and systems as well as electrical upgrades for purchase and installation in local homes.

Electrify Decatur will be available to help inspire homeowners to improve their home’s energy efficiency, take energy conservation actions and improve indoor air quality. Ultimately, the program aims to make electrification—and the savings, safety and improved comfort it can bring—easier and more accessible to everyone.

Electrify Decatur is a strategic component of the City of Decatur’s Clean Energy Plan adopted in September 2022. That plan established Decatur’s commitment to supplying 100 percent of community-wide electricity demand with clean and renewable energy by 2035. It identified demand reduction and increased energy efficiency as the City’s primary pathway to achieving this ambitious goal and called for creation of a community-wide campaign to accelerate actions toward the renewable energy goal.

“The City of Decatur is proud to launch Electrify Decatur as a key step in fulfilling our Clean Energy Plan,” said Mayor Patti Garrett. “This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency, and improving quality of life for our residents. By supporting homeowners in making cost-effective, climate-smart upgrades, we are advancing both our environmental goals and our responsibility to future generations.”

Replacing aging or outdated equipment with heat pumps is one of the most efficient, high-impact ways to improve indoor air quality and comfort plus often lower household energy costs. Heat pumps and other new technologies provide efficient and eco-friendly alternatives for a more sustainable, healthier and comfortable home.

City residents can “take a pledge” now to get a headstart on arrival of the program and to receive the latest updates on the availability of Electrify Decatur’s features. To pledge and sign up – which has no obligation – visit here.

To activate the local effort, a newly developed “electrify” marketplace – LetsGoElectric.com –  will provide tools to map and begin taking climate-positive actions in their homes.

Key Features of Electrify Decatur:

Navigation of New State-Provided Incentives: Georgia’s Home Energy Rebates provide households with incentives on the purchase and installation of electric appliances, insulation, air sealing, HVAC, and other home improvement measures. Eligible households can get up to $16,000 in savings depending on household income and/or expected energy savings.

Access to Incentives and Financing: Ways to access alternative financing and utility incentives for electrification are included in the marketplace.

Electrify Decatur is connected with a national movement to electrify the built environment.

“Addressing climate change requires a rapid transition from fossil fuels to renewable electricity sources and converting our appliances and vehicles to run on clean electricity,” according to Rewiring America, a national nonprofit organization focused on the value of electrification.

LOCAL CONTRACTOR PARTICIPATION

Local contractors eager to enhance their economic involvement in this rapidly growing market sector can increase their visibility among current and future customers through participation in the Decatur program. Currently, a Request for Information has been made available to area contractors. To access the RFI for contractors, visit here.

Once Electrify Decatur launches to the public, there will be 24/7 online availability of electrify information, access to contractors, an array of Electrify community events and engagement activities and other methods to enhance awareness at the neighborhood and citywide level.
