Unique Multi-Community Program Begins Oct. 9 to Help Improve Residential Energy Efficiency

Triangle Region, NC – A free new community-based program will launch Friday, Oct. 9 to help homeowners and renters in multiple Triangle communities plan their home and property’s energy needs then affordably identify and acquire the latest in energy-efficient technology.
Developed via a public-private partnership involving five local governments and the Triangle region’s planning council, the innovative program – known as Electrify the Triangle – will help residents navigate the maze of different incentives, rebates and financing options currently available through state and utility, residential, energy-focused initiatives.
The program is designed to personally assist local citizens to:
- Explore weatherization and proven technology options by mapping a customized energy savings plan for their property;
- Select from among an array of participating local contractors who chose to be involved;
- Access valuable assistance to identify and navigate various discount purchase incentives from the state of North Carolina available to qualified residents; and
- Shop for financing alternatives in order to help upgrade home appliances and systems.
Electrify the Triangle was developed and launched by a public-private coalition made up of Central Pines Regional Council, City of Raleigh, Orange County, Chatham County, Town of Carrboro, Town of Chapel Hill, The Clean Energy Fund of the Carolinas, Self-Help Credit Union and Let's Go Electric.

Special Launch Event on Friday, Oct. 9 Electrify the Triangle’s launch event will take place from 9-11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the Central Pines Regional Council office located at 4307 Emperor Boulevard, Suite 110, in Durham. This kickoff event is free and open to the public. Features include remarks from community leaders and a complete overview of the program. Information about how how local homeowners can benefit as well as ways for community groups, special interest groups and neighborhood organizations to become involved in sharing the benefits of the program will be provided. Beginning Oct. 9, free navigation services will become available online, including booking of appointments that help inform homeowners about their energy-saving decisions and optimizing purchases as well as their eligibility for key incentives and alternative financing.
The program will feature a free online marketplace — LetsGoElectric.com — in which Triangle-based contractors will showcase their innovative heat pump technologies and energy-efficiency products and systems as well as electrical upgrades for purchase and installation in local homes. Various group purchasing opportunities will also begin to be offered through the marketplace to help lower costs for all on certain products.
HOW LOCAL CONTRACTORS CAN BECOME INVOLVED: Triangle area contractors are welcome to provide their expertise, equipment and installation services to customers who utilize the program, which will generate new, qualified leads for contractors’ business.
Contractors will be vetted to prospectively provide the following services:
- Installations of HVACs, particularly air-source and ductless heat pumps;
- Water heaters and clothes dryers that use heat pump technology;
- Electric kitchen appliances; induction cooking;
- Residential EV charging equipment;
- Solar and battery backup power;
- E-bikes and electric-powered lawn equipment as well as home energy audits and related energy efficiency, insulation and electrical services.
